Stimulus

A stimulus is an internal or external phenomenon of an event, object, or object that evokes a response from an organism. In psychology, stimuli simplify behavior, learning, and perception. They can be external, such as light, sound, touch, etc., as well as internal, such as thoughts, feelings, and other physical manifestations. For example, a sudden scary sound can trigger a reflex, a response from the nervous system, while the smell of food can trigger hunger. Stimuli can be classified in different ways: a neutral stimulus from the start produces no response; an unconditioned stimulus produces a reaction and response; a conditioned stimulus produces a learned reaction after association. In both classical and operant conditioning, stimuli are central because organisms learn to respond to particular stimuli in their surroundings. Knowing how stimuli shape behavior helps psychologists explain the learning process, emotional reaction, and the decision-making process in daily occurrences in the modern world.
