Frotteurism is considered an intense paraphilia which is defined by sexual urges or fantasies of touching and rubbing against a victim who does not give consent, most often found in crowded public spaces. It is a pattern of sexual arousal which is considered deviant in the psychological sense due to its need of close and physical contact with another individual who does not give consent, often for the sake of attaining gratification, control, or otherwise. Frotteuristic acts are often covert and associated with sexual interests. Buses, subways or any other densely populated events are considered ideal in order to escape without being noticed. While there are individuals who may experience urges or fantasies, a chronic case is diagnosed when the individual suffers from these psychologically nonconsensual acts for a period of six months. Frotteurism has been said to stem from lack of impulse control or excessive sexual attraction to deviant fantasies or early conditioning. Treatments include psychotherapy and behavioral methods, along with prescribed medication to lessen such compulsive urges. Understanding Frotteurism is vital for its prevention, legal proceedings and therapeutic considerations.
