Psychology

Psychology involves the study of behavior and mental processes. More precisely, psychology is the study of individuals and how they think, feel, and act in a range of different contexts. In addition to studying behaviors, the discipline looks at thoughts, emotions, and motivations. Understanding human development and functioning psychology draws on biological, cognitive, social, and cultural factors. It is a comprehensive field of study, including but not limited to clinical psychology which focuses on mental health, cognitive psychology which deals with thinking and memory processes, social psychology which concerns behaviors of groups, developmental psychology which investigates lifespan changes and biological psychology that looks at the interrelation between the brain and behavior. Psychologists have well defined and systematic approaches to research which includes but is not limited to the use of memory studies that explain the processes of storage and retrieval of information and motivational studies that explain goal pursuits. In addition to contributing to scientific knowledge, psychology also makes science applicable in the improvement of education, health care, productivity in workplaces, and in the general well-being of individuals.
